Military Monday (January 5, 2015) -- U.S. Naval Reserve and U.S. Maritime Service IDs from 1951

In September 1951, as a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy - Kings Point, and as an officer in the Merchant Marine, my father also had a U.S. Naval Reserve appointment as a LTJG (USNR) following his service during World War II. His USNR identification card is shown above.

In December 1951, my father was still actively employed as an officer in the Merchant Marine. His identification card from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Maritime Administration, UNITED STATES MARITIME SERVICE is shown immediately above.

  1. John,
My father, William H. Barrett, Jr., also graduated from Kings Point and served in the Merchant Marine from WWII into the early 1980s. His brother spent most of his maritime career as a pilot on the Panama Canal. Several years ago, he gave us an amazing gift - our father's career as a painting. You can see it and read the story on my Moultrie Creek blog. Dad spent his career on tankers. Maybe our fathers knew each other . . .
